The seasons of the vineyard are varied and beautiful.
In spring, the young shoots begin to awaken from their winter dormancy. By summer, a full canopy of green leaves graces the vines, where young clusters of grapes begin to accumulate the flavors and sugars that will later lead to great Napa Valley wine. Fall heralds the harvest, with growers and winemakers racing to pick and crush their grapes at the optimum ripeness. And finally, the cool, short days of winter provide a resting time for the vines, which—in their dormancy—are pruned for the following season.
Join us here over the next year as we document a year in the life of a winery—all the care and intent that goes into creating the great vintages of Grace Family Vineyards: aspects of biodyamic cultivation from the fallow days of winter into spring, summer, autumn, the harvest, the crush, aging, bottling, labeling, and more. |
